There’s nothing like a bowl of warm oatmeal for breakfast on a chilly winter morning, and a helpful hand to lift the spoon up to your beak!

Breakfast
There's nothing like a warm bowl of oatmeal on a cold winter morning.
Yummy!
Now where can I wipe this cereal off my beak?

Lunchtime
Lunchtime is a very nice time of day. It's especially nice when you share it with your loved ones. Here's a picture of me enjoying a lunchtime peanut butter sandwich with my step person:
By the way, do you know how to eat a peanut butter sandwich? The best way is to start from the underside of the bread and eat your way through until you almost reach the peanut butter. Then you leave the peanut butter part for someone else to eat. Leave the crust for them, too, then go off and look for another piece of bread and start all over again. Also, be sure to leave lots of crumbs all over the table.

Parrot Poetry - Sunflower Seed
Sunflower Seed
by Shadow
If you’re looking for a way
To pass an idle hour,
My advice is to reach for
The seed of the sunflower.
Open up the hard black shell,
Inside you’ll find a special treat,
A morsel smooth and tender,
On my tongue it tastes so sweet.
So if you’re feeling bored
And it’s a pastime that you need,
You could not possibly do better
Than to open a sunflower seed.
Than to open a sunflower seed.

Cookies!
Do you like December? I do, mostly because it's the holiday season and that's when my person makes gingerbread cookies. Yummy! I just love gingerbread cookies.Well, I love any kind of cookie, but my favorite kind of all is gingerbread. That's because gingerbread is so chewable, and we parrots love to chew. Also, my person always makes a few small gingerbread men just for me to eat. She's never made me any gingerbread parrots though. Hmmm. I wonder why.

A Book About Pancakes
Do you like pancakes? I love pancakes. I pretty much love eating anything that's starchy or floury -- bread, cookies, cereal, you name it. Pancakes are especially nice because my person usually puts blueberries or blackberries in them, and berries are full of something else I love -- seeds! So, the point is, because I love pancakes so much I can't be too jealous that my person's newest book is not about parrots, because it is about pancakes, and who could be unhappy about pancakes? Not me! The book is called The Naughty Pancake and you can read about it here. OK, so there's one problem with the book, for me, at least, -- it doesn't have any pages to chew. That's because it's an ebook. But even tho' you can't chew it, you can read the story and look at the pictures, and they're pretty nice.

Table Manners
OK, that gray parrot, Trouble, may know how to talk, but she doesn't know how to eat right. She has no table manners at all. My person let her come to the breakfast table the other day and what you think she did? She just stuck her beak in the cereal bowl and started flinging cereal all over the place. Me, I never fling. When I eat cereal, I let the crumbs drop to the floor, and when I am done nibbling on a piece, I let that drop to the floor, too, before I pick up another one. That's what floors are for. Duh.

Guest Blogger: Trouble
Shadow has kindly allowed me to write a guest post on her blog while I am staying at her house this week. As you can see from the photo, I am having a wonderful time here. For two nights in a row, Shadow's person has served me the most delicious dessert -- ice cream topped with whipped cream. Yummy! I just love sticking my beak into those soft mounds of whipped cream. The ice cream is pretty good, too. Actually, it's really frozen yogurt. It's made just down the road from here at Cobb Hill. My favorite flavor is peppermint chocolate chip (Shadow's person removes the chocolate chips from my servings). Actually, that's the only flavor I've had so far. But I wouldn't mind having it every night for a week. I hope I get to! So, my person can stay out of town as long as he wants. OK, I don't really mean that. I miss him, but eating Cobb Hill frozen yogurt kind of makes up for his absence.

Snack Time
Don’t you just love snack time? Today it’s peanut butter and raspberry jam on a bagel. I like the jam part best. I usually just eat the jam off the top and leave the peanut butter for my person. I like dunking pieces of the bagel in coffee, too. It’s a parrot thing. We love dunking. What about you? What kinds of snacks do you like?

Ode to a Walnut
by Shadow
I think it is my fondest wish
To find a walnut in my dish,
A walnut with its skin so brown
Sitting there without a sound.
I'd bite into it with my beak
And taste the nut's delicious meat.
Eating nuts is a true pleasure.
Walnuts are my greatest treasure.

Clementines
There's at least one good thing about winter, and that's clementines. I'm so happy when my person brings a box of them home. I love sinking my beak into a clementine slice and sucking up the juice. It's so tasty! After we've eaten all the clementines, I get to play in the box. That's really fun. My person puts toys and pieces of paper in the box for me, and I step in and chew away. Then I chew down all the sides of the box. It usually takes me a couple of weeks to chew through the entire box, working on it a little bit everyday. Sucking clementine juice and chewing clementine boxes are really fun winter pastimes. Do you like clementines? What about clementine boxes?

Eating Sandwiches
I love sandwiches, mainly because they have a lot of bread and I just love bread. When a plate with a sandwich on it is set near me, I get to work right away nibbling away at the bread. It's very tasty. While I nibble, I scatter bread crumbs everywhere because that's how we parrots eat. We always drop at least half our food on the ground. It's a parrot thing. Even though I mostly focus on the bread part, sometimes I take a nibble or two at the inside of the sandwich. If it's just peanut butter, I won't go anywhere near it. I can't stand peanut butter. But if it's berry jam, what a treat! Berry jam is filled with tiny seeds, and I just love seeds. A strawberry jam sandwich is just about the best kind of lunch I can think of. What about you? What kinds of sandwiches do you like?

Hot Tea
A mug of hot tea on a cold winter afternoon is a pleasant thing, don’t you think? I love to stand on the rim of the mug and feel the warm steam rising up through my feathers. Then, I dip the very tip of my beak into the mug and catch a drop of tea. I lick the tea drop off my beak with the end of my black tongue. Yummmmmmmmmmy. Warm tea tastes and feels so good. Chamomile is my favorite kind. What about you? What do you like to drink on a cold winter day?

Love to Eat!
There are so many fun and tasty things to eat. At the top of my list, of course, are sunflower seeds and walnuts. YUM-MY! I’d do anything for a sunflower seed or walnut. Actually, I’m pretty lucky because my person puts a couple of bits of walnut in my food dish everyday. I also love anything made of corn—cereal, bread, corn kernels, corn on the cob, etc. Carrots are good, too. It’s really fun to chew a carrot and let the juicy orange bits fly all over the place. And I love sinking my beak into a pile of mashed potatoes. I like eating ice cream once in a while. I scrape up little bits with the sharp tip of my beak, then stick out my tongue and lick it off. It’s cold, but sweet. What else? Oh, berries are great because they’re filled with seeds. Green beans are too. Did you know that? It’s true. If you open up a green bean, you’ll find some pretty tasty seeds inside. Of course I eat my pellets everyday, but I like to eat other things too. What about you? What are some of your favorite things to eat?

Breakfast
I love breakfast time. Every morning I wait quietly in my cage for my person to come and take the cover off it. It’s warm and dark in there and I sit on my perch and dream parrot dreams of walnuts. Finally my person arrives. She takes the cover off and puts fresh water in my water bottle and fresh food in my dish. I get pellets and dry cereal for breakfast. The walnuts are mixed in with the cereal, and I scramble as fast as I can to dig them out of the dish. Mmmmmmm! Walnuts are so yummy. I eat fruit and vegetables and other things during the day, but for me the best meal of all is walnuts for breakfast. What do you like to eat for breakfast?
