Lost Friend

Wouldn’t you know it? No sooner do I find out that the refrigerator’s the place where the walnuts have been hiding than it disappears. That old refrigerator is gone. Completely gone. I miss it, and not just for the walnuts. It was quite a talkative thing, always making lovely groaning and squeaking sounds. I always enjoyed listening to its rantings and ravings. Now there is a new one in its place, and I have to admit it’s quite a fine looking thing, very bright and clean. It’s not such a talker, though, just emits a quiet hum. So we’ll just have to wait and see if it’s friendly or not, if it also has walnuts and, if so, whether or not it likes sharing. I’ll let you know what I find out.

I Found Them!

I did it! I finally found out where the walnuts are kept! It happened like this: While I was paying a brief visit to the kitchen today, my person opened the refrigerator door. That's when I saw them. They were sitting right there on the top shelf, as plain as the beak on your face, right under a brightly shining light bulb. They smiled and winked at me through their plastic wrapping and seemed to be saying, "Come eat us now!" So I stepped onto the refrigerator shelf - that sure felt cold on my toes - and was just reaching out my beak to touch the plastic wrapping when my person grabbed me out of there and slammed the door shut. What a party pooper! Oh, well. At least now I know where the walnuts are. I bet I can get the refrigerator to let me in again. It seems to be a pleasant creature, quite friendly and ... well, not warm, but friendly, anyhow. I don't think it would mind sharing a few walnuts. I'll keep you posted.

Heat Wave

After a summer of many cold, rainy days, we’re finally having our summer heat wave, with temperatures in the 90s. I can really feel it when I’m out for my daily walk in my carrier, and I sure enjoy a spritz of cold water on my feet when I get home. How about you? How do you like to cool off when the weather is hot?

By the way, the blackberries are finally ripe, and I am enjoying blackberry jam on toast. Love those seeds!

Busy, busy, busy

I have not been blogging as much as I'd like recently. I just have so much else to do! One of my main duties is to sit on my person's shoulder while she works and give her inspiration. She's been working a lot lately, and I've been very busy inspiring her. Also since she's been so busy with work, she doesn't have much time to help me with this blog. OK, I'll admit it, I need her help with the typing part. If you had feet like mine, you'd need help managing a keyboard, too. Feet like what?, you say. Well, if you have to ask that, clearly you haven't read one of my greatest inspirings, If You Were a Parrot. Check it out here. You'll find out what my feet look like and why, why I need to chew so much, and lots of other interesting things about the life of a parrot. Happy reading!

More Trouble

Trouble the gray parrot is back for a visit and talking as much as ever. All day long it's, "Ain't it cool! Ain't it cool!" Ain't what cool? I'd like to know. When she's not saying that, she's saying "What a good girl!" or asking for an apple and a grape. What's the point of all that talking? Personally, I think a nice, simple phrase such as "Pretty bird!" says it all.

Trouble and I do have a few things in common, however. While I'm eating my breakfast walnuts, she's eating her breakfast peanuts. While I shred my way through "Gone With the Wind," she shreds her way through "Pride and Prejudice." I guess you've gotta give some credit to a bird with such literary tastes as that.

Summer Days

There hasn't been a whole lot happening around the parrot cage recently, just enjoying the lazy days of summer...morning walks in my carrier...afternoons relaxing in my cage with a dish of pellets...chewing up some plastic bottle caps...waiting for the blackberries to ripen.... I've finally gotten back to "Gone With the Wind" and am chewing my way through the second half. It shreds so well! What about you? How do you like to spend summer days? What books have you been enjoying recently?
