Poetry Retrospective #4

 My Friend, the Toaster Oven

The toaster oven makes a sound
That’s music to my ears:
Tick tick tick tick, tick tick tick tick,
Then ding! and toast appears.

Sometimes the toaster oven’s cold
But it can change, I know,
‘Cause other times the oven’s warm
And has a bright orange glow.

I like the oven when it’s hot
And tasty toast’s in there,
But I will always be its friend
Even when cold and bare.

Poetry Retrospective #3

An important springtime issue.

 Migration (or not)

Robins travel twice a year
Seeking better weather
Winters south and summers north
They always fly together.

Parrots stay where they belong
In their jungle home
There they’ve got food and flock
They’ve no need to roam.

Poetry Retrospective #2

Today I share a poem about one of my favorite foods.

Ode to a Walnut

by Shadow

I think it is my fondest wish
To find a walnut in my dish,
A walnut with its skin so brown
Sitting there without a sound.
I'd bite into it with my beak
And taste the nut's delicious meat.
Eating nuts is a true pleasure.
Walnuts are my greatest treasure.

Poetry Retrospective #1

I wrote quite a lot of poetry in my younger years, as longtime followers of this blog may recall. I thought it would be a nice idea to do a poetry retrospective. Here is the first installment - one of my early poems about spring.

Spring

by Shadow

The outside birds sing

Their greetings to spring:

Cheep cheep chirrup chirp cheer.

But my kind of talking's

A very loud squawking.

It's pleasanter to the ear.
